ActHIB Drug Interactions

ActHIB Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when ActHIB is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Anticoagulants
Caution should be used when giving intramuscular injections like ActHIB to individuals taking anticoagulant medications (commonly known as "blood thinners"). Make sure your healthcare providers (including the nurse giving the vaccine) know that your child is taking an anticoagulant.

Immunosuppressants
If your child is taking an immunosuppressant, he or she may not receive the full benefit of ActHIB, since the immune system may not be fully capable of responding to the vaccine.

In addition, with some vaccines, especially live vaccines, people taking immunosuppressants may be at a higher risk of actually developing the infection (usually a mild form) from the vaccine. However, because ActHIB is not a live vaccine, this is not a problem.

Final Thoughts

It is possible that not all drug interactions with ActHIB were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about any specific interactions that may apply to you.
