You and Your Baby at 12 Weeks
Three months is a major milestone for everyone. So much has happened in the last 12 weeks that it may all be a blur. Between the sleep deprivation and the end of "pregnancy-brain," you might not be able to recall everything that has happened up to this point. If you haven't done so, try to start writing down some of the fun moments. You'll be really glad that you did later on.
Your 3-month-old baby's weight has continued to rise, even if he hasn't gotten a whole lot taller. This is the time when most babies are at their chubbiest (sometimes they look like the Michelin man). A 3-month-old baby boy, on average, will weigh just over 13 pounds, and the average baby girl will weigh about 12 1/2 pounds.
Name Recognition in 3-Month-Old Infants
A fun new development that you may begin noticing in your 3-month-old baby is name recognition. Your little one knows her name now. If you put her down, in her high chair, crib, or even the floor (facing away from you), call out a few things. Then call out her name -- just watch -- she'll turn or try to turn to you and see why you are calling her.
No Small Feat for a 3-Month-Old Baby
Your little bundle can do some amazing things, as she has gotten bigger and stronger with each passing day. While crawling might still be weeks and weeks away (and don't get too anxious for crawling…then your life really changes), during tummy time she might be able to prop herself up on her elbows and observe the world in front of her, even with no head bobbles. Of course, your baby might have been doing this for weeks already or your baby is so close to getting there, but is just not there yet. Every baby will get there at his or her own pace.
