3-Month-Old Baby (13 Weeks)

Some 13-week-old infants may be displaying some early signs of teething, such as increased saliva production, hand biting, and increased chewing on things. However, it is probably unlikely that a 13-week-old baby is truly teething at this time. If your baby comes down with a fever and does not tolerate oral medications, there are some alternatives (such as suppositories).

You and Your Baby at 13 Weeks

Up until now, your little guy or gal has mainly been an observer of life, watching and learning with little control over themselves -- from their emotions to their movement. However, bit-by-bit they are now learning to initiate certain movements that occurred earlier by chance and reflex (i.e., grasping, smiling, etc.).
 
Even better, another way that your baby is maturing and adapting to your world is through their sleep pattern. By this time, most infants do the majority of their deep sleeping at night, with shorter, lighter intervals during the day.
 

Is My Infant Teething Already?

Some things you might have noticed emerging in your 3-month-old baby are the early signs of teething. While true teething is likely still off on the horizon, these early signs may start as early as 3 months and may include:
 
  • Increased saliva production -- drool central!
     
  • Hand biting -- your little one may find comfort in shoving their entire fist in their mouth, not just a thumb.
     
  • The new or increased need to be biting or chewing on anything (just like a puppy).
