4-Month-Old Baby (19 Weeks)

When your baby is 19 weeks old, she may begin to try sitting up on her own. However, she may still wobble, so it is important to have a pillow behind her to protect her head from hitting the floor or something else that may hurt her. Also, this may be the time when your baby is displaying some early signs of teething, such as excessive drooling, ear rubbing, and a low-grade fever.

You and Your Baby at 19 Weeks

Babies at this age can be extremely fun to be around. They are more engaging, interactive, and amusing as they begin learning about you and their surroundings. Your little one is starting to see you as more than simply a source of food, warmth, and comfort. You are now a source of entertainment.
 
Earlier, if she laughed and smiled at you, it was a little unpredictable and often hard to replicate. Now, she has developed a taste for the funny things you do. Maybe it's a sound you make or a silly facial expression you can do. Either way, right now is a great time to be a parent.
 

Major Developments for a 4-Month-Old Baby

Achieving good head and neck control is "baby's play!" All of the time you two spent working those muscles will prepare your infant to make another developmental leap. Pretty soon (if not already), your baby will be able to sit on the floor unassisted! She might wobble a little, but the progress is undeniable.
 
Have fun with it -- but remember, falling backwards is still a possibility, so putting a firm pillow or cushion behind her to protect that noggin is a wise idea. There are great horseshoe-shaped pillows available that can catch a fall from the sides as well as the back.
