7-Month-Old Baby (30 Weeks)
Dropping GamesAs your little one continues to learn about the world and his place in it, you might notice his new favorite game to play with you. It is called "I drop it, you pick it up." Dropping things over the side of the high chair or tossing things out of the crib is a common behavior of 7-month-old babies. They are experimenting with their ability to make things happen.
It is fun to watch toys take a tumble and, of course, there is always the added benefit of watching you retrieve the thrown items. They are learning that they have the ability to affect and control the things and people around them. It is by no means an attempt at being naughty or mischievous.
Things you may try to limit the behavior are:
- Calmly but firmly shake your head and say no
- Softy explain why you don't want him to throw these items anymore, even if you don't think he understands you yet
- Stop retrieving the items for him
- Put him on the floor.
Helpful Tips for Parents of a 7-Month-Old BabyIf you need to get some things done around the kitchen, put your little one in the highchair and let him watch. Pull the seat up to the sink or dishwasher so that he has a front row seat. Give him a plastic bowl or soft spatula to play with while you take care of business. As long as you don't take too long and leave your baby feeling neglected, you may both benefit from some "alone time."
