You and Your Baby at 7 Weeks
Compared to what you have just been through, caring for a 7-week-old baby can be a piece of cake. You have learned so many tricks and techniques that have made things easier.
You and your baby are no longer healing, and have both moved on to bigger and better things. By this time, you may have even found a good rhythm with this new little person in your life!
Week 7 is a great time to stop and look back and revel at how far you've come. Give yourself a pat on the back!
By the time your baby is 7 weeks old, she can tell the difference between your facial expressions and may be able to display a few emotions of her own. These displays of emotion on her face are real -- not just a reflection of your expressions back to you (or gas!). When babies smile or frown at this age, it is the direct expression of what is going on in their heads.
At this point, they have no ability to mask their emotions -- so what you see is what they are feeling. Take this time to get to know your baby's facial expressions. At the same time, be aware of your own expressions, because your baby is watching and learning a lot from your face right now.
