6-Week-Old Baby: An Overview
Your baby is now six weeks old. As you have become more efficient at understanding and attending to your baby's needs, you should feel good about yourself -- you're really getting the hang of this parenting thing! Hopefully, things have been getting a little easier and you have been able to get some quality sleep.
Even better, maybe you have been able to get back to some of your pre-pregnancy routines, like date night! It is so important to keep the lines of communication open and actively nurture the relationship with your partner.
Tip of the Week -- Dealing With Diaper Rash
Diaper rash will affect almost every baby at least once. There are some things that parents can do to minimize the chances of their infant getting diaper rash. Some recommendations include:
- Changing diapers frequently
- Airing out the skin as often as possible
- Using "sensitive" wipes and super-absorbent diapers.
However, even with the most diligent care, a diaper rash is likely to happen at some point with every baby.
Inside a baby's diaper is a confined and typically moist area. Especially with today's disposable diapers and their incredible leak protection, very little air is able to circulate through the diaper. Heat and moisture are trapped inside, and that creates the perfect environment for a diaper rash.
If your baby gets a little diaper rash, it is important to know that it is not your fault. It happens. The trick is catching it early and making it go away as quickly as possible. Besides following the
diaper rash prevention suggestions listed previously, there are a number of
diaper rash creams and ointments available that can both treat and help prevent diaper rash.
