Cetraxal^® (ciprofloxacin ear drops) is currently available only as a brand-name drug. Ciprofloxacin, the active ingredient in the ear drops, is sometimes called "Cipro" for short. However, it should not be confused with the brand-name drug Cipro^®, which is available as a tablet or an oral suspension.

Brand-name Cetraxal is protected by exclusivity rights that are not set to expire until May 2012. Once this exclusivity period ends, other companies will be able to produce a generic version of the ear drops.
