Desitin^® is an over-the-counter (OTC) ointment approved for treating and preventing diaper rashes. There are three different products currently available in this line of diaper rash ointments; two contain zinc oxide (a compound that helps to protect the skin from irritants), while the other contains vitamin A and D in white petrolatum (which works by forming a protective barrier on the skin). All three products are applied liberally as often as necessary, both to treat and to prevent diaper rash.
