Is Docosanol Used in Children?

Docosanol is not approved for children under the age of 12 years old. Talk to your child's healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using the drug in children.
 

Is Docosanol Used for Off-Label Reasons?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend docosanol for something other than cold sores. Using the drug to treat Kaposi's sarcoma (a tumor common in people with HIV or AIDS) is considered an off-label use of the drug.
