Gatifloxacin (
Zymar®,
Zymaxid™) is a prescription eye drop used in the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis (
pink eye). It works by interfering with two important enzymes that bacteria need in order to multiply. Most people tolerate it well, and the medicine can be used in children as young as one year old.
If you are taking other eye drops in addition to gatifloxacin, you will need to separate these doses by at least five minutes. However, if you are not sure what exactly to do in such situations, your pharmacist or healthcare provider should be able to help you.
