Clinical Effects

Increlex has been studied in clinical trials that included children with severe primary IGFD. In these studies, the children were growing an average of 2.8 cm a year (about 1.1 inches a year) before starting Increlex.
After starting the drug, they grew an average of 8 cm a year (about 3.1 inches a year) in year one and 5.8 cm a year (about 2.3 inches a year) in year two. This rate gradually declined such that by year eight, the average rate of growth was 4.3 cm a year (about 1.7 inches a year).

When and How to Use It

Some general considerations to keep in mind during treatment include the following:
  • Increlex comes as a liquid that is given as an injection just under the skin (a subcutaneous, or SC, injection). It is usually given twice a day.
  • The injections should be given just under the skin in the upper arm, thigh, abdominal (stomach) area, or buttocks. You should change the site for each injection.
  • Do not inject this medication into a vein or muscle. It should only be injected just under the skin.
  • Your child must eat a meal or snack within 20 minutes of each dose (either before or after the dose). If your child cannot eat for any reason, do not give the dose.
  • Inspect the medicine before each dose, and only use the drug if it is clear and colorless. Do not use this medicine if it is cloudy or discolored.
  • Your child's healthcare provider will show you how to inject this medicine. Make sure you understand the instructions completely before using it. Be sure to ask questions if there is anything you are unsure about.
  • For this drug to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.

Dosing Information

The dose of Increlex your child's healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a few factors, including:
  • Your child's weight
  • How your child responds to the medication
  • How well your child tolerates the medicine.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
