What Is Isotretinoin Used For?

Isotretinoin Use in Children

Isotretinoin is approved for use in children as young as 12 years old, although there is some concern that it may cause thinning of the bones (which could lead to osteoporosis) when used in children or teens. Talk with your child's healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using the drug in children.

Is Isotretinoin Used for Off-Label Reasons?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend isotretinoin for something other than acne. This is known as an "off-label" use. Isotretinoin is sometimes used off-label as chemotherapy to treat certain types of cancer.
