Amoxicillin/Clavulanate Potassium ES Information

Amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium ES (Augmentin ES®) is available only by prescription and is approved for treating children who have persistent or recurrent ear infections. This antibiotic is not appropriate for everyone. Before prescribing amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium ES, your healthcare provider needs complete information on your child's medical history and what medicines your child is taking (including nonprescription medications and herbal supplements).
 
Although many people do not have any problems while taking this antibiotic, amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium ES can cause side effects, such as diarrhea, vomiting, and diaper rash. If negative reactions do occur, they tend to be mild and easily treated.
 
Amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium ES comes in liquid form and is typically taken twice daily. This product is only approved for children and should be taken at the beginning of a meal.
