PedvaxHIB Vaccine Information
The PedvaxHIB® vaccine (Hib vaccine) is approved for use in children ranging from two months to six years in age. It is designed to provide immunity against life-threatening diseases caused by the Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) bacteria, such as bloodstream infections, bacterial meningitis, and epiglottitis. PedvaxHIB works by "tricking" the body into producing antibodies in response to the vaccination.
Before your child receives the PedvaxHIB vaccine, information the healthcare provider needs includes any medical conditions your child has, such as immune-suppressing conditions like HIV or cancer, and any medications your child is currently taking, including nonprescription drugs and supplements. This will help ensure that the vaccination is appropriate for your child.
(Click PedvaxHIB for more information on this vaccine, including details on how it works, what else your healthcare provider needs to know, possible side effects to be aware of, and more.)
