Pimecrolimus Drug Information
People who have mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis may benefit from pimecrolimus (Elidel®). This prescription drug is approved for use in adults and children as young as two years old. It works by suppressing the immune system, making it less active.
While most people tolerate pimecrolimus well, side effects can occur and may include headaches, common cold symptoms, and burning at the application site. In most cases, reactions to this drug are minor and generally easy to treat. Before taking pimecrolimus, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any other medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, as well as any allergies you may have, including to medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives.
