Tessalon Medication Information

Tessalon® (benzonatate) is a cough suppressant approved for adults and children as young as 10 years old. It comes in two strengths (100 mg and 200 mg) and is available in brand-name and generic forms. The most common side effects of Tessalon include constipation, nausea, and a "chilly" sensation.
 
The medication comes in the form of liquid-filled gel capsules. It is meant to be taken by mouth, up to three times daily. Make sure to swallow Tessalon whole; never chew or suck the capsules, as doing so could cause serious reactions.
 
This drug may not be suitable for everyone. Before starting treatment with Tessalon, your healthcare provider will need information on your current medications and details on your health history. It's especially important to tell your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any allergies, including to food, dyes, or preservatives.
