Ulesfia Medication Information
Ulesfia® (benzyl alcohol lotion) is available only by prescription and is approved for treating head lice. Specifically, this medicine works by paralyzing the breathing holes of lice and then suffocating them.
This drug is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before prescribing Ulesfia.
Although many people do not have any problems while taking Ulesfia, side effects can occur and may include skin irritation and numbness at the application site. If negative reactions do occur, they tend to be mild and easily treated.
Ulesfia comes in the form of a lotion that is applied to the hair and scalp and left on for 10 minutes. Because it can only kill adult lice, a second application is necessary seven days after the first treatment -- the second application will kill the lice that have hatched from the previous week.
(Click Ulesfia for more information on this medication. This article covers how this drug works, discusses its effectiveness, and offers some safety precautions to be aware of before beginning treatment.)
