Lupron® (
leuprolide acetate) is only available in generic form, as the brand-name version is no longer manufactured. Generic Lupron is sold under one name and strength: Leuprolide 1 mg per 0.2 mL injection. Several companies make generic Lupron medications, including Sandoz and Teva Pharmaceuticals.
This prescription medication is used to help relieve the symptoms of advanced
prostate cancer and to stop puberty in children who have a condition known as central precocious puberty.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that the generic versions of Lupron are as good as the brand-name drug. However, generic medications may have different inactive ingredients than a brand-name medicine, which may cause problems for some people.
