Lupron and Osteoporosis

Make sure your healthcare provider knows if you have osteoporosis before using Lupron® (leuprolide acetate). He or she may also discuss whether you have certain risk factors for developing this condition. Some of these risk factors may include:
  • A family history of osteoporosis
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol use.

Lupron may decrease bone density, which could increase the risk for osteoporosis and bone fractures. This side effect may be especially concerning for people who already have osteoporosis or who have risk factors for this disease.
