Lupron Treatment for Prostate Cancer
Lupron® (leuprolide acetate) is a medicine licensed to treat the symptoms associated with advanced prostate cancer.
Specifically, Lupron is approved for the palliative treatment of late-stage prostate cancer. This type of treatment helps to relieve the symptoms of cancer, but does not cure it. Lupron can help reduce symptoms, such as pain and problems with urination, which are often caused by prostate cancer.
Testosterone stimulates the growth of most types of prostate cancer cells. Because Lupron decreases testosterone levels, this drug can slow down the growth of the testosterone-dependent cancer cells and help reduce the symptoms of cancer.
