Injection site reactions (including pain, redness, and swelling) and fever are the most common side effects that have been reported with Adacel. Problems due to the vaccine are often mild and do not require medical attention in most cases. Certain side effects are potentially serious, however, and should be reported to your healthcare provider immediately, including severe shoulder pain, weakness, or behavior changes.
- Injection site pain -- in up to 77.8 percent of people
- Injection site redness -- up to 24.7 percent
- Injection site swelling -- up to 21 percent
- Fever -- up to 5 percent.
