ColicIf your baby's healthcare provider has diagnosed your little one with colic, then it's probably been a long road to get to this point. In many cases, the nightly crying sessions tend to slow down and taper off around 12 weeks.
If your baby's crying is linked to her digestive system, there is a possibility that it is not actually colic. Infant GERD is a medical condition in which some acid from your baby's stomach might be creeping up and irritating the sensitive lining of the esophagus, causing true physical discomfort and resulting in colic-like crying spells.
Colic, on the other hand, is inconsolable, extended crying by babies with no health issues. Because the two conditions can cause the same amount and type of intense distress, you should have your crying baby examined by the doctor to rule out medical conditions like infant GERD.
