Kids Home > Scoliosis Information

A musculoskeletal disorder, scoliosis is a condition in which a person's spine is curved side to side. Out of every 1,000 children, 3 to 5 will develop spinal curves that are considered large enough to need treatment. The condition can also occur in adults.
In most cases, the cause of scoliosis is unknown, but some people may have a curved spine due to a disease, infection, injury, or birth defect.
The most common treatment options for scoliosis include:
  • Observation
  • Bracing
  • Surgery.
