Mononucleosis (mono) is a viral illness commonly referred to as the "kissing disease." It is nicknamed this because it is usually spread through saliva and mucus. People with mononucleosis may experience symptoms such as swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, high fever, and lack of energy. There is currently no treatment to kill either of the viruses that cause the illness, but treatments are available to relieve symptoms of mono as the body fights the virus.
