Pink Eye Transmission

The Start of Pink Eye Symptoms

Following pink eye transmission, a person does not develop symptoms immediately. Once the virus or bacterium enters the eye, it begins to multiply and the body begins to attack. This causes inflammation.
After 12 hours to three days, symptoms can begin. This period between transmission and the beginning of symptoms is called the incubation period (see Pink Eye Incubation Period for more information).
