Prevnar 13 Drug Interactions

Prevnar 13 Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Prevnar 13 is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Anticoagulants
Caution should be used when giving intramuscular injections (including Prevnar 13) to individuals taking anticoagulant medications (commonly known as "blood thinners"). Make sure your healthcare providers (including the person giving the vaccine) know that your child is taking an anticoagulant.

Immunosuppressants
If your child is taking an immunosuppressant, he or she may not receive the full benefit of Prevnar 13. With some vaccines (especially live vaccines), people taking immunosuppressants may be at a higher risk of actually developing the infection from the vaccine, albeit a milder form. However, because Prevnar 13 is not a live vaccine, this is not a problem.

Final Thoughts

It is possible that not all Prevnar 13 drug interactions were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about any specific interactions that may apply to your child.
