Prevnar 13 Drug Interactions

There are several drugs that can interact with Prevnar 13, including cortisone, heparin, and azathioprine. If your child is taking an immunosuppressant, it's possible that he or she may not receive the full benefits of the vaccine. To help ensure a safe and effective vaccination, tell your child's healthcare provider about any other medications your child is taking.

An Overview of Interactions With Prevnar 13

Prevnar 13™ (pneumococcal conjugate vaccine) can potentially interact with a few medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions with Prevnar 13 include:
 
 
 
    • Chemotherapy (as well as radiation treatment)
    • Corticosteroids, such as:
 
      • Betamethasone (Celestone®)
      • Cortisone
      • Dexamethasone (Decadron®)
      • Fludrocortisone (Florinef®)
      • Hydrocortisone (Cortef®)
      • Methylprednisolone (Depo-Medrol®, Medrol®)
      • Prednisolone (Pediapred®)
      • Prednisone
      • Triamcinolone (Kenalog®)
