Prevnar 13 Uses

Off-Label Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Prevnar 13 for something other than the uses discussed in this article. This would be known as an "off-label" use.

Currently, it is recommended that children 6 to 18 years of age who are at an increased risk for invasive pneumococcal disease because of sickle cell disease, HIV infection (or other immunocompromising condition), cochlear implant, or cerebrospinal fluid leaks should receive one Prevnar 13 dosage, regardless of previous vaccination with Prevnar or Pneumovax. This is considered an off-label Prevnar 13 use.
