Strep Throat Cure

Strep throat is a throat infection caused by bacteria. Because of this, healthcare providers use antibiotics to cure it.

Treatment for this bacterial infection is necessary because, if left untreated, strep throat is easily spread to others and can result in potentially serious complications. Treatment will also decrease the length and severity of symptoms if medicines are started within the first two days.

In most cases, penicillin is the typical antibiotic of choice for treating this infection in adults. It is effective, safe, and inexpensive. Penicillin may be given as pills that are taken for 10 days, or in the form of a shot.

Treatment also includes getting plenty of rest, drinking lots of fluids, and perhaps taking other medications to help with the fever and throat pain, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol®).

After the first 24 hours, your temperature should drop, and you are no longer contagious. Other symptoms should start to improve around day two or three of treatment.
