Besides taking antibiotics, a person being treated for this throat infection should:
- Get plenty of rest
- Drink plenty of fluids.
Taking acetaminophen (Tylenol®) or NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen (Motrin®) or naproxen (Aleve®), can help with the fever and throat pain.

Some other things to consider when being treated for strep throat include:
- Use medicine as directed and finish the prescription, even if you are feeling better. Stopping the treatment too early or skipping a dose could allow the bacteria to become resistant to the medication, which could allow the infection to spread. This may require longer treatment.
- If symptoms worsen or do not improve within a few days after starting strep throat treatment, contact your healthcare provider again.
