The prescription drug Synagis
® (
palivizumab) is manufactured by MedImmune, LLC. It is given to children who have a high risk for developing serious complications from respiratory syncytial virus (
RSV) infections. Although it cannot prevent a child from becoming infected with RSV, it can help minimize the potentially serious complications that this infection can cause.
Synagis is given as an intramuscular (IM) injection (an injection into a muscle) once a month during the RSV season, which is usually from November to April. The injection is usually administered in the thigh muscle.
