Infant Teething and Fever

It can be difficult to tell when a baby is teething because there is often little visible evidence to guide parents to the source of the pain. Many symptoms of teething are shared with other conditions, so you should not just assume that a particular sign is due to teething.

While an infant is teething, fever may occur. However, fever can also be an indicator of something more serious, such as an infection. Do not assume that a fever is caused by teething. Other symptoms should also be present that would indicate teething as a possible cause of a low-grade fever (less than 100.4ºF or 38ºC). Teething does not cause high fever.
