Tessalon Perles

Tessalon® (benzonatate) is a medication used to stop coughing in adults and children as young as 10 years old. It comes in different forms and strengths, including Tessalon Perles (the 100-mg strength of brand-name Tessalon). The Perles get their name from the fact that the liquid-filled gel capsules have a spherical shape. When brand-name Tessalon comes in the 200-mg strength, the capsules are oblong.

This medicine is generally well tolerated, but side effects like nausea, constipation, or a "chilly" sensation have been reported. Before taking any version of Tessalon, tell your healthcare provider if you have any other medical conditions or are taking any medications, including nonprescription drugs or herbal supplements.
